Here is one that I took today. I used BKT at 1EV step, three shots, and put them together in photoshop. And some post processing.

Contest Winners: "Landscapes - Nature Black and White" Photography and Digital Camera

Let me mention first of all that I love all my fellow dpsers (is that a word?) that chime in and answer questions and direct people to the rules. You make it so much easier!

There were a lot of images to go through this time and it was very hard to narrow it down. When there are this many, some of our favorites will not make it to the finals. If you have a favorite picture, be sure to give your fellow member a little "love" and leave a comment at their flickr or other site, or send them a pm here on dps.

First goes to The Great Salt Lake by Lostsoulstav:

"Sure, the sky is blown in the centre but it works in the context of this high contrast image from Lostsoulstav. It was just the right moment to take the photo because of the way the cloud (top left of centre and echoed bottom left) balances the silhouetted branch (bottom right of centre)."

And we have another three-way tie for second!

Trees at Twilight by debsij:

"Fog and soft focus give this shot some drama, makes you wonder what could wander out of that mist. A good example of how black and white can transform a photo into something different."

Tunnel of Trees by ebradrt:
Tunnel of Trees
" Ebradrt's is more enclosed that most of the landscape shots but I think it still qualifies, not least because the path draws you in and the overexposure of the trees on the horizon of visibility further emphasises the depth of the scene even though foreground foliage hides the sky."
"I feel like walking right into this shot. Little touch of fog, laciness of the trees, plus the texture of the road make this an appealing image."

House on Lake by nixm

"Beautiful curve that leads the viewer's eye around the image. Nice textures and contrast of the clouds to the sky. Little house gives a good point of interest."

How to compose a photo scene Photography and Digital Camera

Experienced amateur photographers and even professional photographers usually know what to look for when composing a scene for their photo. Over the years, they have developed the skill to see the potential of great pictures around them. In this course, I will provide you a few simple guidelines that will allow you to learn what to look for and how to see beautiful scenes all around you. If you take these guidelines to heart and follow them on every photo you take from now on, chances are, your photos will come out better than you'd expect. Today, you can start developing your artistic skill of seeing and composing a beautiful photo by following 3 simple guidelines.
Tell a story. What is the idea behind your photograph? What kind of story does your photo convey? What is your subject matter or theme?Emphasize your story. Does your photograph focus on your main subject? Does it give importance to the main elements of the story you wanted to convey in your photo?Simplify your scene. Does your photograph include only elements that are necessary to convey your idea or story? Did you remove (or at least minimize) the elements that distracts or elements that does not add to the idea or story?
By following these 3 simple guidelines, you can now look at your surroundings with a new perspective. You can start developing your skill for the artistic side of photography.

D7000 - first impressions from a newbie to DSLR Photography and Digital Camera

I anticipate a long and wonderful relationship with this camera.

After the P500, the silent focus is wonderful. The fact that it DOES focus and not hunt constantly, even better. It will be amazing once I actually understand the focusing.

It fits my small hands perfectly.

But the reason I am in love with it (and probably could be with many other cameras as well) is the viewfinder. On the P500 the viewfinder was useless so I had to use the screen which of course made it hard to go back and forth and get the shot. Plus my 50-plus year-old eyes are, well, old and tired and don't work so well anymore. I can use the viewfinder without my glasses and see perfectly to compose the scene and follow the bees. This makes me happier than I realized it would.

Just playing with it a few hours last night and again this morning points out to me how much I have to learn, but that's okay, I'm up to the challenge. :D

I do think there's another lens in my future. I like to get right on top of the bugs and the flowers but I can't get close enough with the 18-105.

Now to read up on how to change some of the basic settings and more on the focusing. I'm guessing that the times the focus dots don't pop up are because I'm too close to the subject.
