D7000 - first impressions from a newbie to DSLR Photography and Digital Camera

I anticipate a long and wonderful relationship with this camera.

After the P500, the silent focus is wonderful. The fact that it DOES focus and not hunt constantly, even better. It will be amazing once I actually understand the focusing.

It fits my small hands perfectly.

But the reason I am in love with it (and probably could be with many other cameras as well) is the viewfinder. On the P500 the viewfinder was useless so I had to use the screen which of course made it hard to go back and forth and get the shot. Plus my 50-plus year-old eyes are, well, old and tired and don't work so well anymore. I can use the viewfinder without my glasses and see perfectly to compose the scene and follow the bees. This makes me happier than I realized it would.

Just playing with it a few hours last night and again this morning points out to me how much I have to learn, but that's okay, I'm up to the challenge. :D

I do think there's another lens in my future. I like to get right on top of the bugs and the flowers but I can't get close enough with the 18-105.

Now to read up on how to change some of the basic settings and more on the focusing. I'm guessing that the times the focus dots don't pop up are because I'm too close to the subject.
